Three key reasons you should keep your child home from school:
-
Temperature over 100.0 degrees F,
-
Is not well enough to participate in class, or
- May be contagious
Signs indicating a child may be contagious include (not limited to):
-
Diarrhea,
-
Vomiting,
-
Abdominal pain lasting longer than 2 hours or intermittent abdominal pain accompanied by other symptoms, such as fever or diarrhea,
-
Rash with fever or behavioral symptoms,
-
Pink or red conjunctiva (whites of eyes) with white or yellow eye mucus drainage, often with matted eyelids after sleep and eye pain,
- Strep throat (until 24 hours after treatment started).
Keep your child home from school for at least 24 hours after the last episode of vomiting or diarrhea. A child with a fever should not return to school until the temperature stays under 100.0 F for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medicine such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen.

Pertussis (whooping Cough) is a bacterial respiratory disease spread through the air by direct face-to-face contact with a person who has active pertussis. It begins with cold-like symptoms and a cough that becomes worse over a period of 1-2 weeks. It is important you do NOT send our child to school if he/she is showing any symptoms of Pertussis. If you have any questions, you may contact the Dunn County Public Health Department at 715-232-2388, your medical doctor, or April Stoveren, RN at 715-643-3647, Ext. 140.
