NHS is an organization that promotes recognition for students who reflect outstanding accomplishments in the areas of scholarship, character, leadership and service. Thousands of schools within the United States have NHS Chapters.
Students must be Juniors or Seniors. You must have a cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.5 or higher. You must support a positive social and academic climate in our school and community.
Why Would You Want to be a Member of NHS?
College and scholarship applications ask about organizations to which you have belonged, and when you include NHS you are saying a lot about yourself. The qualifications for membership are stringent, and fairly consistent around the country, and being a member of NHS sets you apart as a good student and a leader. Your leadership and positive example in our school allows other students to understand that hard work and academic success are rewarded.
How do I Apply for Membership?
Students who meet the GPA criteria will have an Activities Form that they need to fill out and return to Mrs. Pederson by the date indicated. Students also need to have two teachers fill out the Character Evaluation Form. The Character Evaluation Form will be returned by the teacher directly to Mrs. Pederson. The student’s application will be reviewed and a decision is made concerning the student’s membership status.
Once You Have Been Inducted, is There Any Way You Might be Removed From NHS?
Yes. If your cumulative GPA falls below 3.5, you have one semester to increase your GPA or you will be dismissed. Also, if you are suspended or expelled from school you will be dismissed from NHS.
If I have any questions, who do I contact?
Please see Mrs. Pederson if you have any questions. She is the NHS Advisor.
